For the construction of the trellis, I used the following materials:
- a bar with a section of 60X40mm;
- edged board with a section of 20x120mm;
- rails with a section of 20x40mm;
- self-tapping screws 4.2X76mm (black, rare pitch);
- self-tapping screws 3X35mm (galvanized);
- impregnation for wood "Pinotex";
- yacht varnish;
- galvanized box with a section of 60X60mm;
- cement and sand.

The design has the following dimensions (one section): total height from the ground 1.9 m, width 1.8 m, height of the lower bar from the ground 0.3 m. The step between the rails is 0.2 m. All parts, including rails, were coated with impregnation and two layers of varnish before assembly. Four seasons of the building's life showed that it has to be varnished every two years. Sometimes it is necessary to sand the darkened wood and re-coat it with pinotex before varnishing. Then the whole structure always looks like new.

To mount the trellis supports, I dug holes 0.4 m deep. On the ends of the bars, which will be in concrete, I put on segments of a galvanized profile 60X60mm (I bought one column for the fence) and secured with self-tapping screws. Since the beam has a smaller thickness, it was necessary to eliminate the gap with a strip of plywood 10 mm thick. It is easier to use special galvanized thrust bearings, but it was not possible to quickly acquire them.
He set the supports from the timber in height, placing pebbles on the bottom of the hole, fastened them with crossbars and temporary supports, and then concreted them.



Tapestry frame installed

After the mortar hardened, I divided the sections in half with additional bars for strengthening and dividing into lighter visual forms. All connections were made with self-tapping screws. In order not to charge the screwdriver too often, the beam closest to the self-tapping screw was pre-drilled with a diameter of 4 mm. The site has a slope, so the trellis is equipped with a "ladder".
The next step was to install the inclined rails of the first layer using self-tapping screws. To simplify the work, I made two calibers of 200 mm in size from scraps of rails. Gauges installed at the top and bottom to ensure a constant angle of inclination of the grating.

The slats are long and thin, so they can have curvature. This must be taken into account when attaching the second layer of rails, directed in the opposite direction, and correct the curvature when tightening the self-tapping screws. The slats of the second layer were first fastened at the top and bottom, and then in the middle, with the correction specified above.
I had enough diligence to impregnate all the ends of the parts before they were assembled. But the places where the parts are joined do not “lose face” over time, and the wood does not deteriorate.

Most of the slats were cut to size and machined prior to installation. To cut the slats at the same angle, I used a template. It is more convenient to do this with the help of a miter box. It turned out to be a rather rigid structure. In any case, roses, clematis and grapes like it.

  4. Dig pipe supports into the ground and concrete.
  5. Connect the supports to the finished arcs.

Rope supports

The supports of the net, dug into the ground to a depth of 70 cm, must be at least 1.5-2 m apart from each other, otherwise it will bend under the weight of the plants.

An option for the largest garden, literally a park on private territory - berso. This ancient small architectural form came to us from France of the 17th century, where, with the help of a frame and haircuts, extended corridors were created from trees, in which both the wall and the roof were made of branches.
